On Wednesday night, the Lady Jegos had their first conference game of the season against Arizona Western College. The Jegos came up with their fist conference win of the year.
At the start of the night, the Lady Jegos opened up quarter one on a 19-1 run, firing on all cylinders. Sophomore Cherlee Collins dished out 5 or her 8 assists in that first block of time. The Jegos would not slow down, going into the locker room up at half 50-28.
In the second half of the night, the Lady Jegos hit a bit of a slump and were out scored 21-15 in the third quarter. But as hard as the Matadors of AWC fought to rush their way back, it was not enough, as the Jegos held on to the victory at the end of the night.
Head Coach Mike Gonzales stated after the game that "this is the first time in program history, that the team has been .500 in conference as well as overall. We are continuing to make strides with the team and I am so proud of the girls".
There were three Jegos in double digits on the night. Sophomore Samantha Nunez dropped 33 points, shooting 63% from the field. She also added 8 assists on the night as well, nearing a double double. Sophomore Stephanie Teller shot in the 60 percentile as well as she went 6-10 from the field, ending with 15 on the night. Lastly, Freshman Ana Martinez hit 3-4 from behind the arch, overall going 4-5 on the night, hitting 11 points.
